Fight or Flight
Although not strictly speaking a type of self-defense in their own right, or fighting against the idea of flight is something that should be considered by anyone looking at different types of defense. The basic idea behind this is that when faced with a situation where you feel comfortable, the animal instinct is either fight or flight – that is, to stay and fight or flee. Generally speaking flight is a better form of self-defense, if you can get because they left open to be damaged. However, this is not always possible so it is wise to look into other types of defense.
Using your head or De-escalation
The strain is basically the premise that you do not have to fight their way out of a threatening situation. In fact, the strain, as its name suggests, is a way to not let a situation escalate. This may take the form of speech, or, if a situation seems too dangerous to stay and reason with the person and then walking away. In fact, in much simpler terms, can be described as turning the other cheek. If you are going to try to reason with someone who wants to hurt you, however, be sure that what I say is not going to fan the flames further and make them more likely to do harm. In this case, if you are not sure you can keep a clear head on its own without getting angry or emotional, then away may be the best option.
Be aware of your surroundings
Often, the best tool we have in any battle that requires self-defense is awareness. This means stopping the problem before it occurs even begun. Be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards will stand you in good stead. This means not listening to your iPod or talking on the phone when it is dark or deserted. This means paying attention to what others are doing. For example, if someone seems to have been following for some time, cross the street and see if they do the same. If they do, can be a worthwhile action, even walking along the edge of the sidewalk nearest the road so if the worst happens, you can try to stop a moving vehicle.
Useful Technology
Technology is a great tool for self-defense, although, as mentioned above, can be a negative thing, especially for mobile phones. However, personal attack alarms, a much simpler type of technology can be very valuable. They can scare people, damaging their ears and draw people’s attention to his aid. They are small, light and cheap, but effective and anyone walking anywhere alone should invest in one.
Martial Arts
Finally, we come to the types of defense that most people think when they hear the term – the real physical defense of oneself. There is a place for these things, but remember that martial arts that most people think of when you think about self defense techniques are sports in their own right and must be treated as such. Never should also be used outside the jurisdiction unless there is a very good reason. On the other hand, if they are not trained in them, do not try to use them as the danger is therefore itself if a muscle tear or rip when trying to emulate something they see on television or in movies.
