Self Defence

Martial arts training is deeper than mere self defence although you may become prepared to defend your family in the training. I have seen a lot of improvement in my mature students over the years. My Raising Canes students are particularly quick to achieve confidence in self defence. The oldest student I ever taught was eighty-four years old and had significant loss of eyesight. Not having an interest in working through the belt system or self defence, this gentleman started karate training to offset his personal fraility. He gained significantly in his joint looseness, flexibility and balance. His strength increased to the point where he started to feel that the self defence aspects of the art might not be outside the limit of his years. He only quit when his eyes failed totally.

Fitness

I too am a bit of a late bloomer, not starting my training until I was in my mid-twenties. When I realized how old and out of shape I felt at twenty-five, I knew real old age would be a disaster. But I also realized that every day putting off the pain and other costs of working out would make my life that much more painful later. That started my martial arts career. Now at sixty years old, with thirty-five years of training behind me, I have never been as strong and balanced as I am now.
I relate the success of my mature students to the fact that I can structure the classes so that everyone only competes against himself and not others. I know that no person over the age of forty or fifty has the energy or stamina of a twenty year old and usually has different goals. If you do become interested in practicing a martial art, look for a club with the ability to accommodate a wide range of goals that has a proven record of providing service to a wide range of student ages.

Tournaments

While the typical club trains for head-banger tournaments and therefore concentrates on the few youngsters capable of bringing glory to the club, I feel that tournament training teaches people to be ego driven, not ego controlled and often brings out their worst side. My focus on non-competitiveness has enabled me to create a club of social support fuelled by friendship and fun rather than aggressiveness and win at all costs thinking. Such a club atmosphere helps to instill the active lifestyle and lifetime learning ideals that the experts have identified as the only way to attain long term goals.

Martial arts training is a great life time activity

It is ever changing and there is always something new to learn and something old to perfect. A sprained ankle sidelines a volleyball or badminton player but the karate-ka will merely switch to hand drills and the grappling arts for the duration of the injury. Those who play old-timer hockey or slow pitch have an off season and martial arts training can bridge the gap and ease season opening trauma. The training itself is a perfect complement to all other sports, especially those demanding coordination and balance.
Karate training has stayed fresh for me, even after thirty-five years of repetition because the amount of material is beyond anyone’s ability to digest (or perfect) in one lifetime. Karate teaches by means of choreographed forms called kata. The learning curve (and therefore the sustained-interest curve) rises steeply into the stratosphere as you become proficient with the basics and learn how to learn the kata. The kata can be done at home in any spare moment.
Cross training in Modern Arnis, Bagua Zhang and Chen Taiji has increased my understanding of how my body works and has helped keep me mentally active also.
Martial arts training is perfect for all those who hate the mindless repetition of jogging or aerobics classes. Add in the enjoyment of learning about the culture of origin of the style you choose, and another world of learning and opportunity for growth presents itself.
The list of physical improvements you can expect from most martial arts training include: increased anaerobic efficiency and aerobic fitness, increased strength and flexibility, increased endurance and stamina, and increased muscle tone. Increases in balance and coordination will be experienced relatively quickly. These changes will enhance your abilities in all your activities in your broader lifestyle. Though a dedicated exercise like running or weight lifting will show greater improvement in that exercise, martial arts training usually hits the full scope of related body needs: balance, agility, gracefulness, strength and flexibility.
Character improvements available in the training include: increased self esteem, self confidence and assertiveness, which is not to be confused with aggressiveness. Relief from the effects of stress are quickly reported. Also the classes themselves tend to teach the (younger) students emotional control, how to work co-operatively in a group, how to lead a group as well as initiative and independent learning. As you can imagine, quick thinking and problem solving become a way of life very quickly.
Fitness Advertising

Now that we all know the truth that the hard body ideal of weight lifting clubs and fitness centers is a genetic matter and not a matter of will power, martial arts works with who you really are and not some superimposed fantasy.
Another fantasy area that impedes training is movies which younger students see as reality, causing them to stall and quit when their dreams are dashed. The mature student has come through the fantasies and seeks real gains and achievable goals. This makes them the ideal student and a joy to teach.
Of course, if you have been inactive for a long time, I advise that you have a doctor’s check-up to ensure that whatever program you start will be safe for you.

Many people are concerned with defense for a variety of reasons. But there can be no doubt that some people do it because they want to feel safe walking around. You may never intend to use their skills, but I feel safer knowing they have them. Here Joanne says why he took up karate.

“I moved to London to do a postgraduate course. After living in a much smaller city than three years, I tend to feel a little apprehensive walking around. To this was added the fact that, although not lived far from where I was doing my course, no one living near me, so I always had to walk home alone, sometimes quite late if he had gone for a drink or had to stay late to work on tasks.

“Apart from people on my course, I really do not know anyone in London and spent much time traveling back to my college town to see my boyfriend and friends who still lived there. So I started thinking about taking a new activity as a way to meet people in London. After thinking about it, I realized that learning some kind of defense would give me more confidence walking on my own. I probably would never have known to use it, but at least I would like know some basics if need ever arose.

“I had no idea what all the different types of martial arts and self defense classes at my gym but I decided to take a real martial art so that if I enjoyed it, it could even compete in tournaments in the future. Moreover, gradations that are designed to keep me focused. But I was lucky that I chose karate lessons also includes some works of defense.

“We were taught right away that the philosophy behind karate meant I could not use to be aggressive. But we also showed Karate moves not using the skills learned in karate to defend themselves against attackers. These represented a certain type of oil is moving, but after class I felt a little safer while walking home.

“Fortunately, I’ve never had to use my new found skills. But I developed my interest in karate and have maintained it. Now I am a purple belt and I hope one day win the black belt. I love my classes three times a week and could not imagine life without them I now know that if attacked, could not be able to fight off my attacker but hopefully be able to do enough to escape and escape -. Karate has given me the thought and presence of mind, as much as it has physical skills.

“And what’s more, because I’ve done a lot of new friends through my karate, I know more people around and in fact rarely walk anywhere alone anyway. I live with some of my karate friends and because we work in similar places, almost every day we traveled home together – an insurance plan everything. “

There is a wide range of systems available to give greater security to a home. While some of these systems can be expensive, which will give some peace of mind, especially in areas with high crime rates or properties that contain objects of great value. All police stations have an officer or officers who specialize in crime prevention advice and some home visits to give advice about security methods that could be useful installed. In addition, the insurance company providing the buildings and / or contents insurance of the property may be able to advise companies or types of system that the householder should be used.

Alarms
There are generally two types of alarms:

* Audio-only alarms, making a loud noise when activated;
* Monitoring Systems – when activated the alarms to notify a remote monitoring station, or monitoring station. ” The monitoring station then notify a person who has been nominated by the head of the family and possibly the police. Naturally, these systems are more expensive because, in addition to the installation and maintenance, there will be a fee for the monitoring service.

audio-only alarms will have a strong deterrent effect – a thief is less likely to enter a house with an alarm and is unlikely to remain if the alarm is sounding. However, the false alarm is a common feature of modern life that could be ignored when there is a real incident.

monitored alarms offer an additional level of security, attendance will be sent to the property. The police just monitor alarms are installed by a company that complies with the Association of the security policy of Chiefs of Police “- and there are very few companies that meet the rigorous standards established by the police. The police, however, still respond when notified that the alarm is sounding for someone who has heard.
Installation
Many of the most sophisticated systems will be installed and maintained by a specialized company. Before choosing a business, householders should check the credentials of the company and ensure that the equipment installed meets British or European standards. Families should never agree to have a security system installed by a company that uses cold calling or canvassing techniques.

The company installing the system – or simply provide a quote – should carry out a full risk assessment before recommending a system adapted to the needs of the household head. In some cases, insurers require a particular type of security system and the company to carry out risk assessment must incorporate these requirements in their recommendations. Even if an insurance company has demanded that a security system installed, sits on is likely to result in lower insurance premiums.

Some types of alarm can be installed by households. However, police do not recommend it as the head of household is unlikely to have any real knowledge of their security needs and can not set the alarm properly.

Alarm sensors
Alarms depend on sensors to activate audible or remote system:

* Motion sensors – are usually passive infrared devices that activate an alarm when motion is detected in the area they cover. They may also be ultrasound or microwave devices;
* Magnetic sensors – these are activated when the magnetic field between the devices is broken by someone or something moving through it;
* The perimeter devices – these devices can be left on when people are using the room or area they cover and activate the alarm if, for example, the glass is broken.

CCTV
Housing and its environment can be monitored by CCTV. The warning signs currently in use may be sufficient to deter opportunist thieves who prefer not to have his face on camera. These systems can be controlled from inside the home or remotely by a security service.

Electronic Entry Systems
These are most likely to be used on floors where residents will have to open the door to people that are not visible to the occupant. These may be just voice or video, and give the family an opportunity to verify the credentials of the person calling before deciding whether to let them people living in houses with large gardens may find that an electronic gate combined with a control system remote entry will give a sense of security.

Most people hear the term self-defense and immediately think of martial arts and other disciplines. But the truth of the matter is that you do not have to learn a martial art to defend themselves – in fact, self-defense may be much simpler than that. Now let’s see some of the most common types of self-defense including some martial arts, but also include areas that people traditionally think of as self-defense.

Fight or Flight
Although not strictly speaking a type of self-defense in their own right, or fighting against the idea of flight is something that should be considered by anyone looking at different types of defense. The basic idea behind this is that when faced with a situation where you feel comfortable, the animal instinct is either fight or flight – that is, to stay and fight or flee. Generally speaking flight is a better form of self-defense, if you can get because they left open to be damaged. However, this is not always possible so it is wise to look into other types of defense.

Using your head or De-escalation
The strain is basically the premise that you do not have to fight their way out of a threatening situation. In fact, the strain, as its name suggests, is a way to not let a situation escalate. This may take the form of speech, or, if a situation seems too dangerous to stay and reason with the person and then walking away. In fact, in much simpler terms, can be described as turning the other cheek. If you are going to try to reason with someone who wants to hurt you, however, be sure that what I say is not going to fan the flames further and make them more likely to do harm. In this case, if you are not sure you can keep a clear head on its own without getting angry or emotional, then away may be the best option.

Be aware of your surroundings
Often, the best tool we have in any battle that requires self-defense is awareness. This means stopping the problem before it occurs even begun. Be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards will stand you in good stead. This means not listening to your iPod or talking on the phone when it is dark or deserted. This means paying attention to what others are doing. For example, if someone seems to have been following for some time, cross the street and see if they do the same. If they do, can be a worthwhile action, even walking along the edge of the sidewalk nearest the road so if the worst happens, you can try to stop a moving vehicle.

Useful Technology
Technology is a great tool for self-defense, although, as mentioned above, can be a negative thing, especially for mobile phones. However, personal attack alarms, a much simpler type of technology can be very valuable. They can scare people, damaging their ears and draw people’s attention to his aid. They are small, light and cheap, but effective and anyone walking anywhere alone should invest in one.

Martial Arts
Finally, we come to the types of defense that most people think when they hear the term – the real physical defense of oneself. There is a place for these things, but remember that martial arts that most people think of when you think about self defense techniques are sports in their own right and must be treated as such. Never should also be used outside the jurisdiction unless there is a very good reason. On the other hand, if they are not trained in them, do not try to use them as the danger is therefore itself if a muscle tear or rip when trying to emulate something they see on television or in movies.

Whether you’re in a pub with the boys or on the street alone, there comes a time in every man’s life when he has to fend off serious injuries. Physical attacks usually take two general forms: 1) The bar fight in which an argument of an escalation in the confrontation, and 2) The theft of the street, in which a premeditated attack for profit economic.

Unless you carry a gun or you’re skilled in martial arts, an attack can leave you seriously injured or even dead. Learn the basics of defending yourself with these tips.
Avoid a fight
In the case of a clash of bars, you can usually defuse the situation before it escalated to physical violence because of the person. You can simply apologize for an incident or say he is not seeking any problems. Common sense usually prevail, unless your opponent is very intoxicated. In that case, slowed motor skills will probably more of a danger to himself than to you.

The real danger lies in an opponent who is drunk enough to have “beer muscles” bravado, but do not drink enough to prevent physically. Your best defense is to pull back or leave the bar.
Assess dangerous situations
Similarly, if you are faced with a mugger on the street, you can usually defuse the situation by delivering his wallet, watch or whatever bully demands and avoid being attacked. This is recommended, especially if the thief has a gun.

A good strategy is to seek a way out, throw your wallet in the opposite direction and flee. The criminal is likely to go to your portfolio, allowing it to escape. In addition, through the implementation becomes a moving target and difficult to hit with a bullet, knife or fist.
Fight for your life
In either situation, if an attack seems imminent, stay calm and be ready to defend themselves. Balance your body in the classic boxer’s stance, standing and moving like a boxer. The face of his opponent by raising his hands to protect your face and neck, elbows close to your body. Bend your knees, one leg slightly forward, and spread your feet about shoulder width.

When you attack, see the man’s hands, not his face. You can react quicker to a swinging fist, if you see the arm is cocked. If the man has a knife, you want to know that quickly and keep your eyes on him so he can react. Do not panic or you may freeze.

And do not be afraid to scream for help – not a sissy if you leave it alive. Someone could come to his aid.
Know the vulnerable parts of the body
Your body can have a lot of grief, especially when the adrenaline pumping, but must protect their most vulnerable body parts. Similarly, the strike at the parts of your body vulnerable to attacking it disabled.

Eyes: Meter eyes with your fingers can cause extreme pain and temporary blindness, allowing you to escape.

Ears: Clapping open palms on both ears will produce a sensation of numbness and possibly unconsciousness.

Nose: The nose sticks out, providing an ideal target for a well placed shot, which can easily cause a painful breakup.

Neck: A single blow, strong in the back of the neck can cause a temporary power failure, giving you time to flee.

Throat: A blow to the throat can cause respiratory damage, disable your attacker and allowing you to escape, while he is breathing with difficulty.

Testicles: Most men know what a well placed shot or kicked in the testicles can do, is guaranteed to drop any man.

Knees: A strong kick to the knee joint will prevent an attacker chasing you.

In law, if a person inflicts on another force’s initial presumption is that an illegal act has taken place. The lightest of touches can amount to assault. However, there are situations where it is recognized that the force can be done without a crime he has committed. For example:

* Someone who participates in a team sport is considered to have consented to a certain amount of force being used against him.
* A doctor operating on a patient would be guilty of assault more serious if the patient did not consent.
* Hitting someone in an overcrowded train is free to be part of everyday life.

In addition, courts have always upheld the right of an individual to protect themselves or others, and have repeatedly said they are allowed to use force or violence to do so. While the amount of force used is excessive self-defense – or defense of another person – has the legal effect of making what might otherwise have been a criminal act.

Public Perception of Self-Defense
There has been confusion about what is allowed by law when a person is acting in self defense. Some have even suggested that the law gives more protection to criminals than to honest citizens acting to protect themselves, their families and their homes. There is a belief that U.S. citizens are in a much stronger position in terms of self-defense law is concerned.

However, although not embodied in the statute, the law in this country is very clear:

* A person has a right to protect themselves or others;
* What can cause violence and / or use of weapons to do so;
* The level of violence can include killing the aggressor, and
* A person may even act preventively and is still having acted in self defense.

The protection afforded to honest citizens by the principle of self-defense comes in two stages.

The Crown Prosecution Service
Before a case goes to court the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will have to decide whether to go that far. In reaching this decision are several factors that the CPS will take into account, including:

* If there is likely to be enough evidence to secure a conviction, and
* If a process is in the public interest.

The CPS said that citizens who have acted reasonably and in good faith to protect themselves, their families and property should not be prosecuted for their actions.

There will be cases where the circumstances of the case, a lawsuit goes to court. These may include cases where it is not clear that an individual really was acting in self defense or in severe injury or death have resulted. However, this does not mean that death will automatically result in the prosecution.

Defense and the courts
If an individual is prosecuted after having performed, or have claimed to act in self-defense before the courts will apply the following test:

* Was the force used by the individual reasonable in the circumstances he or she thinks they are?

The jury will have to answer this question based on the facts as the person he saw when he acted as he did. A person is entitled to use reasonable force to protect themselves, family members or even a complete stranger if you really think they’re in danger or a victim of an unlawful act, such as assault. A person may even have what is known as a preemptive strike if you honestly believe that the circumstances require. This means that a person may use force if they believe there is an imminent threat of violence if not the first act.

What if someone makes a mistake?
The law of self-defense even can excuse an assault, or death, when the individual was wrong in their belief that they had to act in the manner it did – when there was never any real danger. If the person who really believed they were acting in self defense, which may be sufficient. However, if the only reason the person that went wrong was because they were drunk is unlikely to succeed in using this as a defense.

Conclusion
The law in its current form provides very broad protection to people who use violence to protect themselves or others. Such protection is an act that could have been a very serious infringement becomes legal. It is also the stated intent of the CPS that individuals who act this way should not even be found in the courts.

CLEVELAND (AP) – A man who has a permit to carry concealed handguns shot and killed one of two teenage robbery suspects he encountered on his front porch, police said.

City prosecutors decided Monday that the man in Cleveland 25 years of age, was justified and would not be charged in the shooting Saturday night, 15-year-old Arthur Buford, a freshman at John F . Kennedy High School.

Buford and another teen approached the man on his porch and one of the youths pulled a gun, prompting the resident to pull his gun and shoot Buford several times in the chest, police said.

Police took a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson of man as evidence, according to a police report.

Toby Hoover, director of the Coalition of Toledo, Ohio based Against Gun Violence, said he had not heard of any fatal shooting involving someone who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon under the law of 3 years age state.

About 30 youths gathered Monday at the intersection of Buford, where he died and create a memorial. His cousin, Tameka Foster, 21, questioned the decision against the persecution of the shooting.

“They let the man run freely,” Foster said. “My cousin is dead.”

Buford alleged accomplice and fled after the shooting and has not been captured. Police believe a 38 caliber pistol they found in the electronic channel of a nearby house belonged to Buford or the other suspect, Lt. Thomas Stacho said.

Do you have reason to try martial arts? Here

Almost everyone knows about the popular martial arts such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu and Tai Chi … Some people have even thought of trying a class. Bt have you ever really done? Need a reason?

Almost everyone has thought about taking a martial art at some point in time. Perhaps as another way to keep fit. Possibly as a way to protect the school bully. There are hundreds if not thousands, of reasons why people choose to take an art, but I have a second to outline what I feel are the most important reasons to try at least one martial art. Maybe for yourself, maybe it’s for your children … whatever reason, all martial arts contain a unique wealth of knowledge and discipline that you just can not get anywhere else. My hope is that this article will inspire you to leave your seat and a school for martial arts what it is.

Self Confidence
As you train in martial arts, you will notice a lot if improvements, such as his physique, balance, awareness, flexibility, and many other physical and mental characteristics. Martial arts will teach you how to combine these skills and use them to succeed in competitions, attaining higher belts, build friendships and protected where necessary. The more you can do, the more secure.

Personal Defense
One of the most common reasons for studying martial arts is to learn to defend himself. A number of schools that can spend class time and / or offer a class program that is strictly for personal defense tactics. In addition, depending on the style of MA or school, self defense can be an important part of the curriculum, which may be beneficial for those interested in “applied arts” (arts that you can use in everyday life) instead of “traditional arts.”

Self-discipline
Webster defines self-discipline as the “correction or self-regulation for the sake of improvement.” Whether trying to make a high school team or timeliness of the company, once you learn the necessary focus to succeed in martial arts can be applied to the rest of his life. Success is mental, and martial arts teach the discipline necessary for success in itself anything you put your mind.

Coordination
Martial arts requires a great deal of hand, foot, eye and mental coordination, but this is developed over time. If you consider yourself as a person lack of coordination, training in martial arts will help you grow those skills. You’ll be surprised what your body is capable of! Even if you’re a natural athlete, standing on one foot, kicking with the other, blocking with his hands is very difficult and involves the coordination.

Fitness
Martial arts do not have to focus on just fighting or self defense and some styles are based more on fitness. Tae Bo and Tai Chi are two examples. However, those with an interest in fighting and defense aspects of martial arts are fitness levels rapidly increased as the training not only developed different muscle groups, but also flexibility and balance. A level of fitness can be as important to win a game as one of the skills and abilities.

The family enjoyment
Most people do not know that this is an excellent way to spend time together with your family! Some martial arts schools that families can train together and other classes separated by age groups. Regardless of how classes are to be retired, families are enjoying time together. It is not unusual for a family all trials, as well as of different ranks and black belts.

Meet new people – Martial Arts is for everyone …
Many martial arts schools structure their classes in three age groups: children – typically ranging from 5 to 11 years old, young – 12 to about 16 or 17 years, and adults – usually starts 18, but some schools make exceptions when necessary. Some schools also offer a “little dragons” program aimed at 4 to 6 years old crowd. The age groups are arranged in rows of belt that allows you to train with people who are relatively the same skills and age. Many times people who begin martial arts together develop a friendship and even marriage obtainin black belt at the same time because they pushed each other in their times of tuff.

Remember there are thousands of styles of martial arts. It is likely that there is a style and a perfect school for you, no matter what your reasons for testing. If you are interested in finding one near you, visit http://www.experiencemartialarts.com. Find out more about martial arts and a list of schools in your area.

Javier Lozano, Jr. has been training in martial arts for over 15 years and currently holds a black belt second. In 2000 he was ranked as the # 1 athlete in the sport of karate in its division by NASKA.

Most people are very prepared when it comes to keeping your family and friends safe. But according to martial arts and self defense expert, Chris “Lt. X” Pizzo, even if you do not have enough training, you can protect your loved ones as a celebrity bodyguard.

“The first thing people remember is that in the street, any attack is a direct threat to their life,” said Pizzo. “At a minimum, at least it will help change the reality of people when it comes to the mentality of self-defense. Once you have made sure that they can switch to other measures that require a little more effort. ”

Therefore, Lieutenant X recommends the following when it comes to protecting you and your entourage own (or family) in the streets of reality:

1) “Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Never take your group in any area where there might even be a possibility of conflict … seedy neighborhoods, alleys, noisy European soccer games, etc. This may seem like common sense to many, but police reports tell a different story. ”

2) “Always move with a purpose. There is a reason criminals prey on those who look lost, confused, or sleepy. Move to and from the places with the intention of when out with friends and family. If rental, sightseeing all ‘look’ all in public places that were designed specifically for this, such as museums, historic buildings, visits, etc. ”

3) “Have an emergency preparedness plan for self-defense situations. Professional bodyguard and private security teams, making their customers know exactly what to do and where to go for when things go wrong. Chances are you have a fire drill for his family, why not a plan for self defense? ”

4) “Get in the damn car. Your vehicle is the ultimate weapon. Getting a ton of steel in the middle of his entourage and his attackers and most of all. Heck, you can even run the threat during his escape. There is a why Secret Service agents are trained to go to an extraction of the first car, even before drawing their own weapons. ”

5) “The forward momentum. Regardless of whether the attack comes from a person or an entire group, there are still only one of you. Choose your destination and begin driving leveling anything in its path. This will not only decimate their target face, but also catch the rest of the threats to the next. ”

6) “gross motor movements. Jabs, crosses, arm bars and takedowns are all very well for the ring, but you get and we are trying to protect the dead in the street. Big, fast, thoughtless movement strikes the leading edge of the hand, whip kick, driving the knees, speculation, etc are what will open up opportunities to escape or put your attacker down. Remember, combat sports such as boxing, judo, jiu-jitsu, MMA, etc. are not self-defense. ”

7) “Run silly sod. Everyone safe? Well, now run. The most stupid thing you can do when trying to protect others is to get all tied up. If ever the hot option walk away, is taken. There are people who depend on you, and your own ego is not as important as their safety. If you want to “fight” in the ring, if you want to protect yourself and your family, get the hell out of there. “
